acrylic paintings by Janie Olsen

Statement - Every story tells a picture...My acrylic paintings can be whimsical, mystical at times, or just simply there. Being a continual daydreamer, passionately attracted to fairy tales, nature, romance, the notion of opposites–good, evil, chaos, ugly, beautiful on and on, there is always some sort of story (or hidden meaning) behind each painting in my mind. Sometimes it is difficult to put into words what the meaning of a piece is, but each painting is to speak for itself and have the viewer go away with his or her own thoughts about the piece. What the viewer thinks about my work is more important than the story I may give. Inspiration comes from nature, animals, music, poetry, and stories.

Biography - Janie Olsen, born and raised in Western Washington, currently has her home & studio in Monroe Washington. Having painted all her life she says “it is a spiritual, driving force within myself”.

Realizing art was going to be one of the main the focuses of her life she graduated from The Burnley School of Professional Art (now Seattle Art Institute), where she studied design and illustration.

Working as a graphic designer during the day, she paints in the evenings and every other spare moment-making her somewhat of a recluse. Her head is filled with ideas and she is constantly sketching, painting and thinking of her next piece - like the Bob Dylan song says-“Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody, when I paint my masterpiece”.

Janie has work in several private collections, on-going work with Schack Art Center of Everett WA, Matzke Fine Art & Sculpture Park of Camano Island WA, Curious Nest, Seattle WA. She also participates in local events throughout the year as listed below.
